A Beautiful Wedding in the U.S.

Amanda & Jason
Amanda & Jason lived in Toyooka for few years shared American culture with Toyooka and took Japanese culture home. Guests from many different countries were reunited at their wedding; Jennelle, Alex, Vivian from the U.S, Fay from England and Takako from Japan. The wedding was held in the beautiful hills of Maryland with the Japanese influence. Guests were cooled by Japanese fans. With table sitting given in Kanji cocktails and orderved were followed by lunch and dancing. The day ended with a pool party with Japanese food served at the pool. An early morning flight took the newlyweds on a Bahama honeymoon.

Party for the students from Mongolia
The students from Mongolia were singing songs
I attended a party for the students from Mongolia at the Odani community center, held by the Odani Group and the members of the 7th Relationship Group.  Homemade dishes cooked by the members and mothers of the high school students were served, and also there were Yakiniku (BQ) and Takoyaki (Japanese dumpling with octopus) booths. Without thinking our age, we introduced our names and found a chance to become friends. Later the students from Mongolia sang songs in Japanese. The party was finished in the traditional Japanese style called Ipponjime (to clap your hands once at the same time).

Singing in chorus♪
Typhoon No. 23 Memorial Event:  “Never Forget That Day” Gospel Concert was held in Toyooka.  Three members of the Tia a cappella group went to the concert and got energized by the voices of Bobby’s Heavenly Choir, and the students from the Toyooka High School.  “Oh, Happy Day” was their last song of the concert.  We could not keep sitting, we stood up INSTINCTIVELY and sang it with them.   Because I was so involved I am so sorry to say, I don’t have any pictures of that part.  We (the singers and audience, about 400 people) sang “Hallelujah” together and we became one.  It was an unforgettable concert.

I wrote “知足 (CHISOKU)” in Japanese and it was displayed it at the Yoka Budokan, on the 17th and 18th of November. My teacher, Mr. Watanuki suggested that I write “知足 (CHISOKU)” which means to know your means and do not expect beyond your means. To be satisfied with yourself and your position. I have been studying Shodo with him for 3 years now. I really enjoy it. I want to become better at writing Japanese Calligraphy!!

Tia Japanese Volunteer Staffs’ “Otsukaresamakai” (07/12/15)

Tia Japanese Volunteer Staff held “Otsukaresamakai” to show their appreciation for each other.  Most of the members gathered for awhile, chatting, playing Bingo, and enjoying a meal.

A teacher meets with a class two or three times a week to teach Japanese Classes to foreign people who live in this area.  We need to continue to think of how to care for and support the foreigners as we count on them (foreigners’) to be valuable in our work force, right?

Cheers♪

OZライフ (08/05/26)

OZライフ (08/05/26)

I am now enjoying a farm stay.  It is not a famous place, but produces wine.  There are big wineries here and there.  My home stay is at one of the wineries.  I am in a good environment, as they do organic farming also.  They grow grapes and also some vegetables and ship them to Sydney.  I am doing farm work there.  I pick up vegetables, wash them, pack them and bring them to the collection point.  I also pick up poles using a machine.  I am just a helper though….

Soon we need to harvest olives, and it will be a big job.  Certainly the olive trees have born many olives.  It is so fun, as many things are new to me.  And I enjoy my slow life, with Italian dishes.  My home stay owner was from Italy and was brought up in Australia.  Recently I moved there, so now it is possible for me to spend my time slowly.  It is good for me to stay at a farm, as I can settle my life there.  I am keen on WWOOF which Michiyo of Tia introduced me too.  I really appreciated being a Tia member, attending Tia events, and meeting people there.  I will attend more Tia events when I get back to Japan.

WWOOF=Willing Workers On Organic Farms.  Help with organic farming, get a place to stay and food, and it is a nonprofit organization.  They aim to think about organic farming and exchange information with many people.

The breeze of Be in Voices

Tia’s Amigos went to a concert by “The  breeze of Be in Voices”.  This group “Be in Voices” came to Toyooka as one of the judges of the A Cappella Competition. They taught us more of how to sing and shared the coming-of-age celebration with us too.  In the concert, singing with the audience was very impressive to us, and there was also many things for us to learn.
